South Florida IS celebrating this National Day of Prayer. The city of Pompano Beach wants people of all religious backgrounds to meet around the City Hall flagpole at noon to join together for a moment of reflection. Spokeswoman Sandra King says Mayor Rex Hardin will lead the ceremony promoting unity. The holiday was established in 1952 through a joint resolution of Congress signed into law by President Harry Truman. It's observed on the first Thursday of May.
