Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. 

  • Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody, to the United States senate to replace Marco Rubio once he’s confirmed as Secretary of State under President Trump – likely next week. DeSantis named his chief of staff, James Uthmeier, to serve out Moody’s term in the post. 
  • Education based non-profit, the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County opened its new headquarters on Barton Road in Lake Worth Beach. The organization, established in 1984, acts as a conduit between the private and public sectors to provide resources to students and teachers through partnerships, grants and donations. The new 20,000 square foot headquarters provides an opportunity for expanded services.  
  • Peggy Adams Animal Rescue is offering free cat and dog adoptions today Friday through Sunday in partnership with the Cognizant Classic. Adoption fees will be waived for pets six months old and older with daily adoptions from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. The Cognizant Classic, which is sponsoring the adoption event, will take place February 26th through March 2nd.  
  • After starting in the 50’s. We’ll have cloudy skies and a chance of showers throughout the day today with highs in the upper 60’s along the Treasure Coast to low 70’s in the Palm Beaches, cooler than usual for this date. We’ll have warmer temperatures and showers throughout the weekend. 
  • Gas prices dropped a penny per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.22 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.36 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.26 and in Indian River County the average is $3.23 per gallon.
