- Florida’s rate of flu spread remains ‘very high’ according to the CDC’s weekly data. Cases have risen in 48 of Florida 67 counties over the previous week – including along the entire Treasure Coast. However, cases remained on the decline in Palm Beach. RSV cases continue to decline across most of the state, however, Martin was among eight to experience an increase in RSV cases last week.
- The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new scam. Calls have been going out to area residents purporting to be from fictitious Sargent William Malloy stating that an arrest warrant has been issued for them. According to the scammer, a fee must be paid over the phone to avoid arrest. PBSO, or any legitimate law enforcement agency, will never call someone requesting payment over the phone. If you receive the call, PBSO advises that you hang up and call 911 to report the incident.
- The Coast Guard is investigating isolated reports of what are being called “tar balls”, which washed up on area beaches on Saturday. According to officials, the “semi-solid fragments or lumps of oil” washed up on beaches in Palm Beach County, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach. If you come in contact with residue, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection recommends using mineral oil or a grease removing agent with fresh water.
- Sunny skies and warm today with highs near 80 – warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week.
- Gas prices fell through the weekend, though they remain higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.16 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.15 and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
