  • Florida's special legislative session to address illegal immigration will continue today. Three bills are under consideration in each chamber during the special session with two addressing Florida’s policies pertaining to non-citizens and illegal immigrants, with one addressing law enforcement response for the detention and turning over of illegal immigrants to ICE for deportation.  
  • The Coast Guard intercepted a boat with 132 Haitians aboard approximately 50 miles from Marathon earlier this week. All passengers were sent back to Haiti. In a statement the Coast Guard emphasized that they’ve stepped up patrols: The Coast Guard will continue to prioritize strengthening our domestic integrity and disrupting attempts to enter the United States illegally by sea. The enhanced patrols are a result of an executive order by President Trump and is dubbed Operation Vigilant Sentry.  
  • The Boynton Beach Police Department has added red light cameras to the intersection of Congress Ave. and Miner Road and is set to catch violators traveling north and south along Congress. Warnings for violators will be issued until March 12th, with fines of $158 issued thereafter.
  • Sunny skies and breezy today with highs in the low 80’s – warmer than usual for this date. Thursday will bring similar but still warmer temps to the Palm Beaches; while rain will begin to move into the Treasure Coast tomorrow.  
  • Gas prices fell another two cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.11 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.07 and in Indian River County the average is $3.08 per gallon
