- The Atlantic Hurricane seasons’ first forecast is out from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. The report calls for a “near-average” hurricane season through September with a total of 12 named storms during the first four months of the season. Guidance for the final two months not yet provided. The forecast is notable as all preseason forecasts for recent hurricane seasons having called for “above average” activity. Forecasters note that a neutral weather pattern, absent of La Nina or El Nino, is a contributing factor for the forecasting as typical season.
- A potential Brightline station in Martin County is said to still be on track, although funding for the project is in limbo following a meeting between Martin County and Stuart Officials. Following last fall’s backtracking by the City of Stuart to bring a station to the city, Martin County officials moved ahead with their own plan which comes with an estimated cost of $45 million to complete. In order to secure grants to cover the costs, the County needed the support of Stuart for their proposal, which is what officials were seeking in Thursday’s meeting. Stuart officials expressed a desire for Brightline to foot half of the costs for the project as opposed to using taxpayer funds.
- The Palm Beach Gardens city council passed a unanimous resolution opposing Palm Beach County’s plan to expand Seminole Pratt Whitney Road to Avenir Drive. The County has expressed a willingness to collaborate on a new expansion plan with city officials going forward.
