Florida News That Impacts You – March 11th, 2025 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.    

  • Today is Election Day for voters in twelve municipalities in Palm Beach County: Boynton Beach, Golf, Highland Beach, Jupiter, Lake Park, Lake Worth Beach, Lantana, Loxahatchee Groves, Pahokee, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach and Royal Palm Beach. Polls are open from 7 am until 7 pm and you’ll need to vote at your assigned precinct.  
  • Monday was Emergency Management Day at the Capitol. This year’s focus was on modernizing the state’s Division of Emergency Management operations. The state is partnered with technology firm Slalom to identify operating efficiencies and introduce the use of AI into operations. A new program developed for the state is said to identify and correct greater than 99% of irregularities that are the result of errors or fraud – allowing for faster invoice payments as well.  
  • Florida has passed California in total solar power generation to rank second nationally behind only Texas based on a new research report from Cleanview. The state’s solar power generation now accounts for 8% of total power generated – essentially doubling output over the past couple of years. FPL’s 30 by 30 plan accounts for the biggest increases in solar generation statewide.  
  • Cool and gusty today with sunny skies. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70’s – which is cooler than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for Wednesday before temperatures gradually rise heading into the weekend. 
  • Gas prices dropped another two cents per gallon on Monday with bigger declines locally. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.05 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.19 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.03 and in Indian River County the average is $2.99 per gallon.
