Florida News That Impacts You – March 12th, 2025 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.    

  • Turnout in Tuesday’s Uniform Municipal Elections in Palm Beach County was low. With elections taking place in 12 municipalities representing about 23% of the county’s registered voting population, turnout was only slightly above 13% among eligible voters. 
  • Mayoral winners from Tuesday’s municipal elections across the Palm Beaches were Rebecca Shelton in Boynton Beach, Jim Kuretski in Jupiter and Jeff Hmara in Royal Palm Beach. All ballot questions presented to voters passed including measures in Highland Beach, Loxahatchee Groves and all three questions in the Village of Golf.  
  • Other winners included Boynton Beach Commissioner Thomas Turkin, Palm Beach Gardens Council member Marcie Tinsley and Scott Kemp, in Jupiter Phyllis Choy and Malise Sundstrom, in Lake Park Commissioners Michael Hensley and Judith Thomas and John Linden and Michael O’Rourke, In Lake Worth Beach, Commissioner Christopher McVoy (a runoff election will take place between Greg Richter and Anthony Segrich for another seat), in Lantana Jesse Rivero for town council, in Loxahatchee Groves Paul Coleman won his race for council. In Pahokee, James Scott won a commission race, Rivera Beach Bruce Guyton pulled out a close win with Shirley Lanier winning the city’s other district race. In Royal Palm Beach for City Council, Sylvia Sharps holds a 17-vote advantage over Steve Avila in a race that may go to a runoff.  
  • Cool and sunny today with highs will be in the upper 70’s – which is a bit cooler than usual for this date. Similar but slightly warmer weather is expected for Thursday with temperatures gradually rising heading into the weekend. 
  • Gas prices dropped another three cents per gallon on Tuesday as we’re back to seeing the lowest gas prices of the year. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.02 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.16 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.99 and in Indian River County the average is $2.98 per gallon.
