  • The state senate appears ready to address the issue of property taxes, including the potential elimination of them. Senate President Ben Albritton expressed support for the legislative proposal to pass legislation studying the impact of property tax elimination, the first step in the process towards a potential constitutional amendment to eliminate property taxes. Additionally, Albritton expressed support for Governor DeSantis’s proposed $1,000 property tax rebate this year, in contrast to House Speaker Daniel Perez.  
  • Next Tuesday is Tax Day for most of the country but not for Floridians. The IRS has pushed back filing deadlines for residents of five states that were subjected to federal disaster declarations. The deadline to file for Floridians is Thursday, May 1st.  
  • In a forum discussing PBSO’s handling of illegal immigration on Thursday, many related issues were discussed including PBSO’s role in assisting ICE via what’s known as the 287(g) program that allows ICE a local presence within police agencies. Sheriff Bradshaw stated: Do not be afraid of the sheriff's office, if you're a victim of a crime, we're going to be there to help you. We're not there to deport you. If we have somebody stopped and we determined through the computer check that they are wanted through ICE. We could call one of the 287 cross-certified people over and then they take them to jail.  
  • We’ll have sunny skies and warm temps today with highs in the low 80’s today. We can expect similar weather through the weekend. 
  • Gas prices dropped another three cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.19 and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
