- There’s a significant shakeup in Florida politics as Senate Minority Leader Jason Pizzo announced that he’s resigning as Democrat Leader and is leaving the party. On the senate floor on Thursday, Pizzo declared that “the Democratic Party in Florida is dead”. Pizzo had been considered by many to be the Democrat’s top option to run for a future statewide office. The announcement caught the party by surprise and comes as the state legislative session heads into its final week.
- 70 illegal immigrants have been detained by ICE in Indiantown with the assistance of the Florida Highway Patrol with the intent to deport them. The sting operation targeted illegal immigrants traveling in commercial landscaping vehicles.
- Today is the grand opening of the first Costco location in the Treasure Coast. The new location is on Kanner Highway near the Martin County High School in Stuart. The store opens at 8 a.m. this morning – two hours earlier than normal business hours. Costco reports over 5,000 new member signups for the location in advance of its opening.

- Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.10 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.24 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.10 and in Indian River County the average is $3.13 per gallon.
