Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Entering the final week of the state legislative session, the state senate and house are at odds over budgeting. One of the focal points is the best way to go about delivering tax cuts. The state senate favors the approach advocated by Governor DeSantis, prioritizing property tax breaks for homesteaded Floridians, while the House approach centers around a reduction in the state sales tax rate. If a budget deal isn’t reached by the end of the day Tuesday, the session will head into overtime as a budget must be reached prior to the start of the state’s new fiscal year in July.
  • A new lawsuit seeks to stop online sports betting in Florida citing Florida’s 2018 constitutional amendment pertaining to gambling within the state. According to the lawsuit filed by Protect the Constitution LLC, the Seminole Compact agreed to by Governor DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe enabling sports betting was in violation of a 2018 constitutional amendment placing control of changes in gaming in the hands of voters. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against the Seminole Tribe’s sports betting app and to force the issue to be brought to voters next year.
  • Delray Beach and Boca Raton are home to two of the three top beaches in the world for balancing recreation with environmental concerns. Delray Beach and Spanish River Park were two of only three U.S. winners of the annual Blue Flag Beach Award which measures: Stringent environmental, educational, safety and access-related criteria annually. Delray Beach won the award for a third time, while the award is Boca’s first.
  • Today will be sunny and warm with highs in the low 80’s which is typical for this date. We’ll have a chance of passing showers on Tuesday before sunnier weather arrives by mid-week.
  • Gas prices trended lower over the weekend. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.04 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.17 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01 and in Indian River County the average is $3.07 per gallon.
