  • Florida’s House and Senate have agreed to a budget framework and have extended the state legislative session for the purpose of passing the new budget. Legislators will return next Monday, the 12th, for the next steps in the process. The agreed to framework is said to come in lower than Governor DeSantis’ proposed budget with a total of $2.8 billion in total tax relief including a permanent reduction in Florida’s states sales tax – the preferred approach of House Speaker Daniel Perez. 
  • Governor DeSantis signed Amendments to the State Constitution bill into law. The new law will make it more challenging for citizen-led proposed amendments to qualify for the state’s ballot and became law immediately – including each person signing a ballot petition providing a state issued ID number or last four digits of a Social Security number. The law followed numerous accusations of improperly collected signatures in recent years. 
  • In advance of the start of the hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center has announced a series of updates for products and services for how they’ll cover this year’s hurricane season. The most notable change with be with the inland cone graphic. The update will add additional color-coded guidance about active inland advisories. Hurricane Season begins June 1st.  
  • Today we’ll have sunny skies to start, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms and highs in the mid-80’s which is warmer than for this date. We’ll have clearer weather for the next few days after today. 
  • Gas prices fell 8 cents per gallon over the weekend. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.24 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.08 and in Indian River County the average is $3.11 per gallon.
