- On Monday Governor DeSantis announced Florida has sworn in over 100 Florida Highway Patrol Troopers as Special Deputy U.S. Marshals under ICE’s 287(g) program. The designation allows FHP to act in the field as ICE would in combatting illegal immigration across the state. DeSantis noted that Florida has more participating members in ICE’s 287(g) program than any other state in the country. The governor also stated that he’s submitted a plan to the federal government to contribute additional space for new detention facilities for illegal aliens awaiting deportation.
- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued a warning to Life Time Fitness in Palm Beach Gardens over its alleged restroom and locker room policies. According to Uthmeier, his office received a complaint from a member of the gym stating men were being allowed into women’s facilities – which is a violation of state law.
- Stuart has passed a city ordinance allowing for trespass warnings for people sleeping and/or camping in public spaces, which is a violation of state law. Under the new ordinance violators will be issued a trespass warning that could lead to arrest if violated within a 12-month period.
- Clearing skies throughout the morning will give way to sunny conditions this afternoon with highs in the mid 80’s, which is a little warmer than usual for this date. We’ll have sunny skies and hotter conditions the rest of the week.
- After reaching multi-year lows Monday morning, gas prices surged 13 cents per gallon throughout the day yesterday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.05 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.18 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.12 and in Indian River County the average is $3.09 per gallon.
