  • Governor DeSantis signed six bills into law on Tuesday: Children with Developmental Disabilities- expands services for autistic children; Foreign Countries of Concern- limits the coordination of health-based scientific experimentation with foreign countries; Background Screening of Athletic Coaches- expands background screening for coaches prior to employment; Legal Tender- allows pure gold and silver to be used as legal currency; Medical Debt- revising debt collection methods for medical debt; Sexual Images - Prohibits person from possessing with intent to promote specified depictions including lewd or lascivious image.  
  • Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. will become the University of West Florida’s next president. On Tuesday the University’s board voted to name Diaz Jr. to the interim president position which will be assumed July 14th. Diaz Jr. played a critical role in the passage and implementation of Florida’s universal school choice program and parental rights in education laws.  
  • Former Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp has been chosen to be the next President and CEO for Florida TaxWatch, the state’s preeminent fiscal watchdog. Kottkamp will take over from longtime President Dominic Calabro in January of 2026.  
  • It'll be warm and muggy today with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms and highs in the upper 80’s, which is warmer than usual for this date. We’re expecting similar weather throughout the week. The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook is clear for the next 7 days. 
  • Gas prices fell three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.01 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.18 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.03 and in Indian River County the average is $2.98 per gallon.
