  • Governor DeSantis signed two bills into law on Monday. The Property Rights bill is aimed at further combating squatters in the state. The new law extends Florida’s anti-squatting law to commercial properties – expediting the process for the removal of squatters at any property type in the state. The new law also increases squatting penalties and makes the assisting of squatters a criminal offense. The governor also signed the Public Lodging and Food Serve Establishments bill into law which prevents guests from claiming residency in any hotel, motel or vacation rental property, expedites the process for the removal of guests who aren’t current on paying their bill for extended stays, and mandates all food service establishments which include automatic gratuities disclose the amount of the included tip on the bill.  
  • Starting Wednesday (June 4th), the Indian River County School District will be providing taxpayer provided breakfast and lunch to students under the age of 18 without income verification or registration at Citrus Elementary School, Oslo Middle School, Fellsmere Elementary School, Sebastian Elementary School and Sebastian River Middle School. Additionally, two community pick-up locations will operate Monday through Friday in Vero Beach at the Victory Park Apartments and Orangewood Park Apartments. 
  • It'll be warm and muggy today with a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with highs in the low 80’s, which is cooler than usual for this date. Saharan Dust continues to make its way through our area with the peak of the current cloud expected to impact our area by midweek. 
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook shows the potential for a weak disturbance to form off the northeast Florida coastline in coming days and to drift northeast. It’s no threat to Florida and has a 10% chance of development over the next seven days. 
  • Gas prices fell three cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.05 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.22 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01 and in Indian River County the average is $3.05 per gallon.
