  • Governor DeSantis has recommended Anastasios Kamoutsas to serve as the state’s next education commissioner. Current Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. will be the Interim President of the University of West Florida June 14th. Kamoutsas has served in the Florida Department of Education since 2019. The Florida Board of Education will vote to determine the state’s next commissioner.  
  • Obama appointed judge Mark Walker has issued an order staying Florida’s social media law for minors. Under the law, social media accounts for children under 14 would be banned with 14- and 15- year-olds requiring parental approval. Enforcement of the law has been stayed while the legal challenge plays out. Walker has frequently stayed and struck down Florida laws with his rulings overturned on appeal.  
  • The Stanley Cup finals get underway in Edmonton tonight as the Florida Panthers look to repeat as champions. Game time is 8 and the game can be heard on Real Radio 92.1 and 1230 The Gambler locally.  
  • Rain and occasional thunderstorms are expected into the afternoon today with highs in the low 80’s, which is slightly cooler than usual for this date. Saharan Dust continues to make its way through our area with the peak of the current cloud moving over Florida today and tomorrow. 
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook shows the potential for a weak disturbance to form off the northeast Florida coastline in coming days and to drift northeast. It’s no threat to Florida and has a 10% chance of development. 
  • Gas prices fell another three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.02 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.19 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.98 and in Indian River County the average is $3.04 per gallon.
