- While attending the 81st Annual Convention of the Florida Professional Firefighters in Palm Beach Gardens, Governor DeSantis signed the Firefighter Health and Safety bill into law. The new law mandates: Fire departments purchase gear free of hazardous chemicals once it becomes commercially available, employers notify firefighters if current gear contains toxic substances, the Division monitor mental health impacts, including suicide risks, and establish prevention protocols, and standard firefighter shifts will be limited to 42 hours per week to reduce burnout.
- Governor DeSantis also issued an executive order removing Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez from his post following an investigation tying him to a $21.6 million illicit gambling operation. DeSantis appointed FHP’s Central Region Chief Christopher Blackmon to the post.
