Florida News That Impacts You – June 16th, 2025 - Driven By Braman Motorcars

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Governor DeSantis signed 12 bills into law heading into the weekend including laws pertaining to financial services, workforce education, an expansion of substance abuse and mental health care services offered by the state, construction regulations, timeshare protections for buyers, expanding apprenticeship programs and establishing a grant program for local law enforcement agencies to use DNA tests.
  • The Florida legislature is set to vote today on a budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year which begins July 1st. An agreement between the House and Senate was reached Friday and today’s vote comes after the required 72 hour “cooling off” period. The overall budget, at $115.1 billion, is lower than the current fiscal year budget – which is roughly in line with what Governor DeSantis proposed and includes many sales tax holidays. Included in the budget - the back-to-school sales tax holiday are to be made permanent along with ending the state’s 2% business rent tax, however the budget doesn’t call for property tax relief – a priority of DeSantis’ or a sales tax rate cut – a priority of the state House.
  • It'll be sunny and hot today with highs in the upper 80’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week with Saharan dust continuing across the Atlantic making its way into the Gulf of America.
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook is clear for the next 7 days.
  • Gas prices continued lower through the weekend and are at new low for the year this morning. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.95 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.12 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.97 and in Indian River County the average is $2.98 per gallon.
