Florida News That Impacts You – June 17th, 2025 - Driven By Braman Motorcars

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Governor DeSantis was on hand at the Florida pavilion of the Paris Airshow to announce the relocation of Otto Aviation’s corporate headquarters to Florida, in addition to a new manufacturing facility that will be built in Jacksonville. The deal will result in $430 million in new investment by the company in Florida with the addition of 389 jobs.
  • The Florida legislature passed a budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year which begins July 1st ending a 45-day delay in delivering the budget to Governor DeSantis for his consideration. In the end, the vote was nearly unanimous in the House and Senate with only two Democrats voting against it. The overall budget, at $115.1 billion, is lower than the current fiscal year budget by about $3 billion – which is roughly in line with what Governor DeSantis proposed and includes many sales tax holidays. Included in the budget - back to school sales tax holidays are to be made permanent along with ending the state’s 2% business rent tax, however the budget doesn’t call for property tax relief – a priority of DeSantis’ or a sales tax rate cut – a priority of the state House.
  • The Palm Beach County commission will vote on a new county administrator today to replace the recently retired administrator, Verdenia Baker. The four finalists, Joseph Abruzzo, Keith Clinkscales, Isami Ayala-Collazo, and Patrick Rutter will hold private interviews with commissioners this morning preceding a vote.
  • The Florida Panthers look to clinch back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in game 6 tonight in Sunrise as the Panthers lead the Edmonton Oilers 3-2. Gametime is 8 p.m.
  • It'll be sunny and hot today with highs near 90, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week with Saharan dust continuing across the Atlantic making its way into the Gulf of America.
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook is clear for the next 7 days.
  • Gas prices rose significantly on Monday, by fourteen cents per gallon. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.09 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.14 and in Indian River County the average is $3.10 per gallon.
