Florida News That Impacts You – June 19th, 2025 - Driven By Braman Motorcars

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • The Florida Department of Transportation has announced that the State Road 7 extension connecting Okeechobee Blvd. to Northlake Blvd. will move forward. The plan to connect the 5-mile stretch is aimed at alleviating massive traffic backups for those in western communities and comes following a judge’s ruling in May that the project could move forward - siding with the state over the city of West Palm Beach.
  • An illegal immigrant, and international scam artist from Romania, has been arrested in Boynton Beach for carrying out a “good Samaritan” scam. According to police, the suspect, who has prior convictions in France, Germany, Italy and Spain, would target women in store parking lots saying they’d dropped $20. When handing the money over, the man would tell the victims to put the money in their wallet – when he’d use slight-of-hand to swipe credit or debit cards from victims. The suspect is believed to have operated the scam in Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Jupiter locally and is believed to be responsible for similar crimes committed across the state. The suspect illegally entered the U.S. through Mexico.
  • Plans are in place for the Florida Panthers championship parade at Fort Lauderdale Beach on Sunday. Similar to last year’s championship parade, it will take place at noon along A1A from Riomar Street to Southeast Fifth Street.
  • It'll be sunny and hot again today with highs in the upper 80’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for the remainder of the week with Saharan dust continuing across the Atlantic making its way into the Gulf of America.
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Outlook is clear for the next 7 days.
  • Gas prices rose another penny per gallon over the past day. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.21 and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
