The Total Reduction in Crime in Trump’s 2nd Term

The Total Reduction in Crime in Trump’s 2nd Term

Bottom Line: President Biden’s administration will be remembered for three dynamics brought about by his failed policy positions. Historically high inflation, an escalation of conflict around the world, and of course illegal immigration via open border policies. Underlying those issues crimes committed illegal immigrants, officially reported as non-citizen crime.

Based on Customs and Border Patrol records, by 2024, non-citizens were committing crimes at a rate that was 914% higher than the average American. This was driven in large part by 662,566 known “non-citizens” with criminal records allowed into this country by the Biden administration seeking asylum. In fact, during the first five months of the Trump administration, more criminal illegal immigrants were detained by ICE than during the entire four years of the Biden administration. Predictably we’ve seen a quick and significant decline in crime across the country.

Based on available data, the total reduction in crime in the United States from January 20th to June 30th, compared to the same period in 2024, is approximately 10–15% across violent and property crimes, with homicides and motor vehicle thefts showing the largest declines (20–30%). Shoplifting is the only classification of crime where there’s been a monitored increase this year.

What’s more is that as the Trump administration is able to further carry out its detention and deportation plans, we can expect to see further declines. President Trump spent the early months of his administration battling unconstitutional universal injunctions against his detention and deportation plans. While legal battles will continue, the Supreme Court’s rulings, largely in favor of the Trump administration, will aid in speeding up the process going forward, so too will the resources provided by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

As deportations ramp up, there’s every reason to believe that crime will continue to fall. The early returns have been impressive. To be continued...
