  • Florida’s Republican National Committeeman, Joe Gruters, will be the next chairman of the Republican Party. The election is set to take place on August 22nd to replace Michal Whatley who is running for senate in North Carolina. Tuesday was the filing deadline for candidates, and Gruters, backed by President Trump – didn't draw any competition for the post. 
  • Miami Dade will be next on the Florida DOGE team’s list of local governments audited. The state’s task force, which is currently conducting audits in Alachua and Broward counties, sent a letter to Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava expressing concern about the county’s $402 million budget deficit despite significant increases in revenue. The county has until August 13th to comply with the initial request for information. 
  • Today is day five of the scheduled eight-day closure of Northlake Blvd. at Beeline Highway for CSX railroad crossing repairs. Delays of an hour or more are possible with detours of 21 and 34 miles serving as the only options for navigating around the closure. 
  • It'll be sunny, hot and humid again today with highs in the low 90’s, which is warmer than usual for this date, and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. More Saharan dust is on its way through the Caribbean and into the Gulf today with another plume tracking across the central Atlantic. Related... 
  • Three systems are being tracked in the Atlantic by the National Hurricane Center. Tropical Storm Dexter continues to track away from the U.S. towards the northern mid-Atlantic. There’s a disturbance moving towards the mid-Atlantic with a 50% chance of development later in the week and a disturbance off the Southeast U.S. coastline with a 40% chance of development.  
  • Gas prices rose by another 5 cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.13 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.28 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.19 St. Lucie is at $3.16, and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
