- It was a smooth first day of the 2025-2026 school year on Monday throughout the Palm Beach Beaches and Treasure Coast. A noticeable law enforcement presence enforcing school zone speed limits observed in numerous communities throughout the area in addition to the implimentation of traffic cameras within 33 school zones.
- Governor DeSantis announced the completion of the Crane Creek/M-1 Canal Flow Restoration Project which is aimed at improving water quality in the Indian River Lagoon while restoring natural water flow to the St. Johns River.
- The Florida Public Service Commission voted to delay FPL’s hearing on requested rate hikes for the continued buildout of new power plants and the electrical grid. The delay on the hearing comes amid a settlement agreement that’s being negociated between FPL and several business interests including the Florida Retail Federation, Walmart and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. The hearing is likely to be resceduled after August 20th.
- It'll be hot and humid today with a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day with highs in the low 90’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. - The National Hurricane Center is tracking three disturbances. A disturbance in the Northwestern Atlantic and a disturbance in the northern Gulf of America are unlikely to develop. Tropical Storm Erin is expected to develop into season’s first hurricane over the next couple of days as it tracks across the Southern Atlantic becoming a major hurricane this weekend. Longer range models generally show the system likely turning north on the approach to the Caribbean, but it’s worth keeping an eye on this week.
- Gas prices fell three cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.01 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.15 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01, it’s $3.02 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.03 per gallon.
