Florida News That Impacts You – August 25th, 2025
Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.
- Delray Beach has now threatened law enforcement action against the Florida Department of Transportation should they seek to remove the unlawful “Pride” display at the intersection at NE 2nd Ave and NE 1st Street prior to next week’s administrative hearing in Orlando. The hearing is to be held on September 2nd, one day prior to the state’s deadline for removal. The vice-mayor has requested additional police surveillance of the display in the meantime. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier told me on Friday that failure to comply with state law could lead to the removal of public officials responsible for the decisions and could lead to liability for the City for those harmed at the intersection which lacks proper traffic markings.
- The Town of Palm Beach will begin to remove illegal moorings in the Lake Worth Lagoon this week in an effort to support safer navigation, combat an increase in wrecked and derelict vessels and out of environmental protection. Under state law it’s illegal to place mooring buoys in state waters without a permit from the state.
- It'll be sunny much of the day and hot once again today with highs in the low 90’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. A thin layer of Saharan dust is passing through the Carribean, over Cuba and into the Gulf with light impacts in South Florida today, with a thicker plume tracking over Puerto Rico and Hispaniola – likely impacting Florida later in the week.
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems. Tropical Storm Fernand is spinning towards the northern mid-Atlantic and doesn’t pose a threat to populated areas. A disturbance in the Leeward Islands now has only a 10% chance of development.
- Gas prices fell through the weekend, are at 15 cents per gallon lower than a week ago near new lows for the year. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.92 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.08 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.97, it’s $2.96 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.97 per gallon.
