  • Governor DeSantis participated in the groundbreaking of the newest phase of the Everglades restoration project on Thursday. The Blue Shanty Flow Way project is now underway in Miami-Dade which once completed will allow more water to flow from the EAA Reservoir south into the Everglades, its natural flow, mitigating the use of destructive eastern discharges from Lake Okeechobee. Notably the project is the first undertaken under a new agreement signed in July allowing for the state to take the lead in Everglades restoration from the federal government. 
  • Delray Beach has voted to end its contestation to state and federal law pertaining to the former illegal Pride-themed intersection. During an emergency meeting Thursday, the city reversed course at the urging of mayor Tom Carney. Quoting the mayor: Nobody thinks we can win, nobody. This is reckless. It's a reckless disregard by the way of taxpayer money. The Florida Department of Transportation removed the crosswalk restoring legal traffic markings earlier this week. 
  • It'll be a mix of clouds, rain and thunderstorms throughout the day today with highs in the mid 80’s, which is typical for this date. Saharan dust currently stretches from the Caribbean through the mid-Atlantic, acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related... 
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance off the coast of Africa which has a 40% chance of developing over the next seven days. 
  • Gas prices fell another two cents per gallon on Thursday and are 15 cents lower than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.99 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.16 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.06, it’s $3.02 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.02 per gallon.
