- 28 new laws passed during this year’s state legislative session take effect today. They include key changes like eliminating the state sales tax on commercial leases, increasing penalties for fleeing law enforcement, tougher penalties for repeat DUI offenses, additional protections for children from predators, increased penalties for threatening or harassing judges and court officials, additional protections for utility workers and requiring landlords to disclose flood risks to tenants.
- Brightline is expanding its service into and out of Boca Raton next week. According to Brightline, as of October 6th there will be 28 daily stops in Boca, doubling its service in the city from earlier this year. The company has also announced peak and off-peak service pricing for the expanded service at the station.
- Showers are possible later in the day with highs in the mid 80’s - typical for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust extends from the Bahamas through the Caribbean Sea and across the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems in the Atlantic. Hurricane Humberto is northwest of Bermuda and is expected to curve around it towards the northern-mid Atlantic. Hurricane Imelda is expected to track east northeast towards Bermuda.
- Gas prices rose another four cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.27 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.15, it’s $3.15 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
