How Much DOGE Has Saved You – October 2nd, 2025
Bottom Line: During our lives there have been three certainties. Death, taxes and an ever-growing government seeking to collect more of them. That is until now. A day 1 executive order by President Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency, marking the first time that a newly established quasi-government agency has had the effect of shrinking the federal government and the size of the bureaucracy. DOGE has exposed waste, fraud, and abuse that’s been flagged to President Trump for the purpose of eliminating programs and to reduce spending.
Many thought that the exit of Elon Musk in the spring marked the end of DOGEing, however, President Trump’s executive order keeps the DOGE office open and operating until at least next July and we’ve recently seen the federal government update its DOGE progress
Here's the most recent update for what DOGE has done (as of October 2nd):
- Total savings: $206 billion
- Impacted Agencies: 22
- Eliminated initiatives: 29,103
- Progress towards minimum goal of $500 billion in savings: 41%
- Progress towards best case savings scenario ($2 trillion): 10%
- Savings per federal taxpayer: $1,279.50
DOGE has a mandate to remain in place through President Trump’s executive order until July 4th of 2026.
