  • Florida has now received a total of $608 million from the federal government for assisting the Department of Homeland Security’s detention and deportation efforts. The state’s largest related expense was for the creation and maintenance of Alligator Alcatraz at a cost of $218 million. All related expenses to the state of Florida have been fully reimbursed. 
  • West Palm Beaches' award-winning GreenMarket is back starting tomorrow. The 31st season of the market at the West Palm Beach Waterfront Commons will be open from 8:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays through May. This year’s theme is ‘From the Ground Up’. The West Palm Beach Green Market ranked first nationally in USA Today’s Readers' Choice Awards for three consecutive years followed by a 2nd place finish last year. 
  • Windy with showers and thunderstorms throughout the day today and through the weekend with highs in the low 80’s - a little cooler than usual for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust extends from the Bahamas through the Caribbean Sea with a separate plume in the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...  
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems in the Atlantic. A disturbance in the Southern Atlantic off the Coast of Africa has a 30% chance of developing over the next seven days, while a disturbance may form off the southeastern Florida coastline moving over our state this weekend with a 10% chance of developing. 
  • Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.09 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.15, it’s $3.12 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.11 per gallon.
