- Palm Beach County is opposing Boynton Beach’s plan to annex 4,500 acres of unincorporated land west of the city, which is home to 35,000 residents. The plan, if enacted, would potentially lead to Boynton Beach surpassing West Palm Beach as the most populous municipality in the county. County officials have argued that the city’s plan isn’t fair to current residents. The proposal will be discussed in tomorrow’s county commission meeting.
- Miami Beach’s rainbow crosswalk on Ocean Drive became the latest illegal road display to be removed by the Florida Department of Transportation. Sunday morning the FDOT removed the crosswalk following numerous warnings to the city to remove it in order to come into compliance with state and federal traffic laws. Like Delray Beach, the city will be forced to reimburse the state for the removal.
- Showers and gusty conditions are possible throughout the day. Highs in the mid 80’s, are typical for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust is tracking over the Leeward Islands and across the central Atlantic with a thicker plume moving off the coast of Africa acting as a headwind for tropical development. - The National Hurricane Center is tracking one disturbance in the southern Atlantic. The system is expected to track towards the Leeward Islands during the week with a 70% chance of development.
- Gas prices fell through the weekend, though they’re 5 cents per gallon higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.02 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.21 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.10, it’s $3.05 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.05 per gallon.
