  • Boynton Beach officials have agreed to postpone plans to move forward with the annexation of 4,500 acres of western unincorporated land with over 30,000 residents. The move comes following opposition from the Palm Beach County Commission. The city said they’ll continue discussions on the matter. 
  • Boca Raton is seeking to build a new police headquarters. Due to the growth of the city and its police force, plans for a new two-story police station have been announced. The new headquarters would be built on city-owned land on Spanish River Blvd. The total price tag is estimated at $190 million of which $175 million would need to be approved by voters on a March 10th ballot resolution. 
  • Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day again today. Highs in the mid 80’s, are typical for this date. A thick plume of Saharan dust is tracking over the central Atlantic, acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...  
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems. Tropical Storm Jerry is in the southern Atlantic and is expected to track towards the Leeward Islands strengthening into a hurricane today. It will curve north towards the mid-Atlantic. A disturbance in the southwestern Gulf of America has a 0% chance of developing near the Mexican coastline. A third disturbance in the northern Atlantic has a 10% chance of development and also isn’t a concern. 
  • Gas prices rose a penny per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.98 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.13 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.06, it’s $2.98 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.98 per gallon.
