  • Governor DeSantis issued a directive to the Florida Board of Governors demanding an end to what he believes is H-1B Visa abuse in Florida’s university system. According to the governor, many jobs that could be filled with qualified Floridians are instead going to lower compensated foreign workers on visas. 
  • The governor also announced Florida’s DOGE team has partnered with the federal DOGE team to cancel or repurpose millions of dollars previously allocated for DEI initiatives. Florida’s DOGE team has found federal grants totaling $33 million that have been cancelled or repurposed, representing savings for taxpayers. 
  • Two of four dolphins found beached on Lake Worth Beach Wednesday morning have been transported to SeaWorld Orlando for rehabilitation while two have died. Florida Fish and Wildlife led the response and rescue effort and are currently investigating the cause of the beaching. 
  • Sunny skies and the coolest weather of the fall thus far with highs in the low to mid-70’s - significantly cooler than usual for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust is tracking over the central Atlantic, acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...  
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking Hurricane Melissa which is currently moving northeast of the Bahamas with top winds sustained at 105 mph as it’s expected to pass near Bermuda later today. 
  • Gas prices rose five cents per gallon on Thursday, after having reached a new multi-year low. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.92 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.09 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.95, it’s $2.90 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.89 per gallon.
