  • State Farm has become the latest auto insurer in the state to reduce rates. The company has filed for a 10.2% average rate reduction for policy renewals going forward. The move comes after the state’s largest auto insurer, Progressive, filed for a 6.5% rate reduction and announced $950 million in refunds to be issued to Floridians going forward. 
  • South Ocean Blvd. is closed to traffic between South County Road and Southern Blvd. until further notice in anticipation of President Trump’s arrival to Mar-a-Lago following his Asian trip over the past week.  
  • Sunny skies and cool weather that will flirt with record low highs today. Many communities are in the 50’s to start with highs in the low-70’s - significantly cooler than usual for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust is tracking over the Leeward Islands extending into the central Atlantic, acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...  
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking Hurricane Melissa which is currently moving northeast with top winds sustained at 90 mph as it moved past Bermuda. No additional landfalls are expected with the hurricane. 
  • Gas prices rose another four cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.96 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.13 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.02, it’s $2.95 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.97 per gallon.
