Florida News That Impacts You – November 17th, 2025

  • An outspoken HOA critic, Miami state Representative Juan Carlos Porras, said he is now drafting legislation aimed at creating a path for residents to end HOAs they don’t believe are properly serving their community. Porras pointed to the recent deadly attacks on two HOA board members in Port St. Lucie as the latest example for the need for HOA reform. Porras said his legislation won’t call for a statewide ban on HOAs, but that it will empower residents to end existing HOAs if they chose to do so. 
  • Habitat for Humanity will be closing its ReStore locations in Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie this Saturday citing the need reallocate resources towards home building and home repairs within the communities. 
  • The FAA is lifting all flight restrictions nationwide as of 6 a.m. eastern this morning as normal operations for air traffic control have resumed following the partial government shutdown. There are only 28 flight cancellations within the U.S. today (down from thousands at the peak), with no current issues at South Florida’s airports. 
  • Sunny skies and seasonal temps today with highs near 80. The National Hurricane Center’s map is clear. Tropical cyclone activity is not expected during the next 7 days. 
  • Gas prices dropped a few cents per gallon over the weekend. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.92 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.07 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.97, it’s $2.94 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.89 per gallon.
