Florida News That Impacts You – January 26th, 2026  

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.     

  • The massive winter storm that’s impacted much of the Midwest and eastern U.S. has led to significant travel issues at Florida’s airports. Over the past day 153 total cancellations took place at Palm Beach International Airport with extensive cancellations already in for today. 
  • This week marks the annual National School Choice Week, with Florida’s Universal School Choice program leading the nation. The state legislature has prioritized education initiatives for consideration this week. Today the Florida PTA Legislative Conference will take place at the capitol, along with Israel Day and Jewish Advocacy Day. Tuesday will turn the focus towards the state’s higher education initiatives for this year. 
  • DCF, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County School District, is investigating an alleged incident involving an autistic student's mouth being tapped shut at Boca Raton Community Middle School. According to officials, the employee in question was reprimanded previously for pulling a student’s hair and shoving them into a desk at a previous school.  
  • It’ll be an unusually warm day to start with unusually cool temps to finish today. High’s will reach the mid-80's in the Palm Beaches with highs near 80 along the Treasure Coast prior to a cold front moving into the area this evening dropping temperatures into the 40’s overnight. We’ll have cooler weather than usual after today for at least the next week.  
  • Gas prices were slightly lower over the weekend though eight cents higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.85 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.02 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.89, it’s $2.89 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.87 per gallon.
