Florida News That Impacts You – February 6th, 2026

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the state’s new CHINA, or Consumer Harm from International Nefarious Action prevention unit, while in West Palm Beach on Thursday. The unit aims to identify and end technology and commerce law violations by China taking place within Florida. Uthmeier said an area of particular focus and concern is human data that’s stored with health care companies.
  • Florida’s ongoing investigation into heavily processed foods, as part of the Healthy Florida First initiative, tested eight bread products from the five largest national brands. While at Palm Beach State college, the governor announced testing revealed Glyphosate, an herbicide used to control weeds, in six of the eight products. Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo said: Our testing found high levels of glyphosate in some popular bread brands. Chronic exposure to glyphosate is linked to harmful gut microbiome changes, liver inflammation, and adverse neurologic effects. Florida is taking action through transparency, continued testing, and a clear focus on reducing exposure to protect families.
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission approved changes to speed zones in the Indian River Lagoon. With guidance from the county commission, these changes were approved: 1) Converting the existing Idle Speed All Year Zone near Sebastian Inlet into a Slow Speed All Year Zone. 2) Changing the current Seasonal No Entry Zone in the canal near the former Vero Beach Power Plant’s warm-water discharge to an Idle Speed All Year Zone. 3) Extending an existing Slow Speed All Year Zone to cover higher-risk, currently unregulated waters of Prang Island Creek in the southern part of the county.
  • It’s a cold start to the day with temps starting out in the upper 30’s to low 40’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast with highs topping out in the low 60’s. Today will be the coldest day for the foreseeable with temperatures gradually rising towards seasonal norms into next week.
  • Gas prices were flat on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.88 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.05 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.91, it’s $2.90 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.91 per gallon.
