Florida News That Impacts You – April 14th, 2026

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Governor DeSantis announced a milestone in the Everglades Restoration plan with all federally funded contracts for the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir having been executed with an ETA for completion of 2029. DeSantis noted: This milestone brings us a step closer to delivering on our commitment to restore the Everglades. The July 2025 agreement between the State of Florida and the federal government has made all this possible by cutting red tape with an all-hands-on-deck approach. This is a major victory for America’s Everglades and a testament to the progress our joint federal and state teams have made in just nine months.
  • Broward resident Tamica Brown has been arrested and charged with running an organized theft operation centered on stealing EBT card numbers and PINs and draining the SNAP benefit accounts of hundreds of victims. Victims weren’t aware they’d been targeted until they attempted purchases only to find out their accounts had been drained.
  • Martin County’s federally funded beach restoration project from Stuart Beach to St. Lucie County resumed on Monday after the project was paused due to the recent weather and beach erosion which caused closures of many area beaches. The project which began in March is expected to be completed by May 1st.
  • It’ll be cloudy and gusty for much of the day with highs near 80 throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – which is typical for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week.
  • Gas prices rose on Monday by 9 cents to a statewide average of $4.11 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.13, it’s $4.10 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.12 per gallon.
