Florida News That Impacts You – April 21st, 2026

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Blue Origin’s latest mission from Cape Canaveral failed to reach its target. The mission to send BlueBird satellites into orbit delivered the satellites at an orbit that was too low to work. The reuseable booster did successfully land after the failed mission.
  • 103 wildfires are active across the state with approximately 12,000 acres currently burning amid high winds and drought conditions for much of the state. Southeast Florida is the least impacted area within the state with most fires in northern and western parts of the state.
  • Boaters traveling into and out of Lake Okeechobee are advised to check current conditions and access to prior to boating. The South Florida Water Management District has closed four boat locks and limited access to a fifth as lake levels have dropped to dangerously low levels in many areas. The overall depth of the lake is approximately two feet below typical levels for this date as consistent discharges from the lake persist.
  • We’ll have gusty conditions, especially along the coast, and a chance of showers with highs in the upper 70’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – cooler than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week.
  • Gas prices continued lower on Monday, dropping another four cents per gallon to $3.95 per gallon statewide. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.13 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.92, it’s $3.97 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.01 per gallon.
