Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Legislators will be making their way to Tallahassee in advance of the start of the state’s special legislative session scheduled to begin tomorrow. The special session called by Governor DeSantis is to address congressional redistricting, artificial intelligence consumer protections, and expanded school vaccine exemptions. Notably proposed property tax reform and a budget aren’t scheduled for this week’s special session.
  • 13 sloths have been rescued from Sloth World in Orlando following the news that 31 sloths recently died amid poor conditions with animals having been stored in a warehouse that hasn’t been approved for safe keeping of the animals. The recovered sloths were transferred to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens for treatment.
  • The Palm Beach Zoo’s new koala habitat was on display Saturday as the expanded habitat allows koalas access to the indoor forest habitat and outdoor habitat, which zoo officials say will benefit the overall health of the animals.
  • We’ll have mostly skies and breezy conditions with highs in the low to mid 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – typical for this date. Similar weather is expected tomorrow.
  • The price of gas continued to trend lower through the weekend and is 5 cents per gallon lower than a week ago at $3.94 per gallon statewide. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.13 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.92, it’s $3.96 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.98 per gallon.
