- A Blue Origin rocket exploded prior to takeoff on a launch pad at Cape Canaveral Thursday night. According to founder Jeff Bezos, no one was injured and the explosion occurred during an engine firing test. Bezos posted to X: Very rough day, but we’ll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying. It’s worth it.
- The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has taken down a massive gang operation tied to hundreds of criminal offenses dating back to at least 2020 – including 62 shootings, homicides or attempted homicides. Dubbed Operation Shark Bait, PBSO made 20 arrests of the gang that’s been operating out of Belle Glade. The multi-agency investigation, which included the FBI, led to the confiscation of a total of 110 firearms, $10,000 in cash and numerous narcotics including fentanyl, cocaine, crack and marijuana.
- The Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue is ready to go live with its new shared dispatch center on Monday. The upgraded operation is said to have the latest technology enabling dispatch to reduce emergency response times and enhance public safety.
- It’ll be partly sunny and hot with a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day with highs in the upper 80’s and a heat index near 100 - warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected this weekend with rain chances increasing throughout the weekend.
- The price of gas continued lower on Thursday, falling by another six cents per gallon. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $4.22 per gallon statewide – 31 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.36 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.14, it’s $4.21 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.21 per gallon.
